About David Clear

David has enjoyed a long and successful career in the Sports Industry after completing a Bachelor of Science at Edith Cowan University majoring in Sport Science and Media Studies. David developed his journalistic skills quickly securing a role at the AFL Newspaper, Westside Football. He then commenced a successful career at the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) starting as a Cricket Officer entertaining thousands of schoolchildren in WA with cricket activities, six years as the Premier League competition manager and ending his time recently at the WACA as the General Manager of a 25-staff strong Department overseeing a rapid increase in cricket participation for males and females throughout the state.

David treats community development as a priority and has been involved in supporting Aboriginal programs in his time at the WACA and beyond.

His ability to communicate with a diverse range of audiences allows him to adapt to a wide variety of industries and organisations. He is currently coaching the female teams at University Cricket Club and thrives on the challenge of engaging non-traditional audiences.

David also understands a challenge, participating in 5 Half-Ironman Triathlons, completing 4 of them. Father of three, David has experience with managing and balancing family and being a Manager in a workplace.

Spending the last 3 years hosting the ‘Sports Saturday’ show on Radio 91.3 SportFM, David’s engaging interviewing skills puts guests at ease and hosting a 7-hour show requires David to be spontaneous on a regular basis.

An emerging caller of sport, David anchored commentary for the Women’s Big Bash competition and several Sheffield Shield matches. His broadcasting skills have seen him recognised in the WACA Media Awards. He received the “WACA “Best Grassroots Story” in 2013-14 and the WACA “Cricket in the Community” Award for 2015-16.

“For 2 years David was a pleasure to work with as Master of Ceremonies for the Olly Cooley Medal. He was professional and personable on all occasions and his work behind the microphone the Olly Cooley Medal Night has only enhanced the event further on the WA Premier Cricket Calendar.”
  • Mike Veletta (Former Australian cricketer and current Board Member at the Western Australian Cricket Association)
“Even going back to me days as WA State Cricket coach I have always found David very engaging and open. His contribution to the development of cricket in the state for many years has been outstanding as cricket has continued to flourish and participation grow in David’s tenure at the WACA.
My recent experience as a WACA Board member at the 2015/16 Ollie Cooley Medal further highlighted David’s very professional, engaging and interactive manner in which he hosted this special WA Cricket Awards ceremony. I found his level of research and knowledge of the topic contributed to the success of the evening and the way he recited statistics and characteristics of the players, teams and clubs that were featured on the night”
