After a sustained successful career in the sports industry across a number of roles, David Clear has established his own Consultancy.
An experienced strategic and operational manager has the capacity to work across various fields and programs. His work in the sport and recreation industry has led him to develop skills in managing people, facilities and finances and ensuring team engagement to achieve development targets. He enjoys being challenged and working with enthusiastic and dedicated professionals.
On departing the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) in May 2016, the Game & Market Development Department had experienced an unprecedented period of participation growth in Western Australia, achieving nearly 50% growth over a three-year period.
A key to the success has been David’s role in developing a staffing and committee structure which aligned to the organisation’s Strategic Plan for cricket in the state. David prides myself on the ability to establish key relationships, to listen and to apply those learnings to adapt to a contemporary setting in the Sports and Recreation industry.
David provides services to partner organisations to enhance their leadership and management capabilities and present opportunities for change and innovation in the development of their sport or recreation organisation or department in an ever-changing environment.
David’s 22 years in the sports industry commenced after completing a Bachelor of Science at Edith Cowan University majoring in Sport Science and Media Studies. David developed his journalistic skills quickly securing a role at the AFL Newspaper, Westside Football. He then commenced a successful career at the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) starting as a Cricket Officer entertaining thousands of schoolchildren in WA with cricket activities, six years as the Premier League competition manager and ending his time recently at the WACA as the General Manager of a 25-staff strong Department overseeing a rapid increase in cricket participation for males and females throughout the state.
David treats community development as a priority and has been involved in supporting Aboriginal programs in his time at the WACA and beyond.
His ability to communicate with a diverse range of audiences allows him to adapt to a wide variety of industries and organisations. He is currently coaching the female teams at University Cricket Club and thrives on the challenge of engaging non-traditional audiences.
David also understands a challenge, participating in 5 Half-Ironman Triathlons, completing 4 of them. Father of three, David has experience with managing and balancing family and being a Manager in a workplace.
David is also an accomplished presenter spending the last 3 years hosting the ‘Sports Saturday’ show on Radio 91.3 SportFM, David’s engaging interviewing skills puts guests at ease and hosting a 7-hour show requires David to be spontaneous on a regular basis.
He was MC for the ‘Ollie Cooley Medal’ Premier Cricket Awards for the past 3 years, has hosted several club awards ceremonies, MC at a Cricket Australia Corporate Dinner in Brisbane in February 2016, Guest Speaker at the opening launch of the Marist First XI Cricket Carnival in 2012, MC for the book launch of Bob Reece’s publication “The Invincibles: New Norcia Aboriginal Cricketers, 1879 – 1906” in February 2014 for over 100 guests and MC for many functions and dinners held by the WACA.
David also is available to deliver engaging MC services for more social occasions such as weddings and general parties. His vast experience with managing events is of great comfort to those enjoying their special day.
David has a passion for growing the number of females and males participating in sport and can partner with sport and recreation organisations to build and implement a plan for growth. This includes aligning competitions with governance structures and playing conditions.
More broadly, David can facilitate the development of Strategic and Operational Plans and assist alignment with National Plans.
Utilising his Management and coaching experience, David also delivers the ‘Engage & Grow’ Program. The program transforms disengaged employees into engaged leaders. This program is now delivered in 60 countries around the world and focuses on the heart of the employees.
